BY TAYLA BAXTER- L1AGEO POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS FOR THE ULURU GEOGRAPHIC ISSUE: OPTION 1: Still allow tourists and non- aboriginals to climb Uluru OPTION 2: Only allow Aboriginals to climb Uluru as it is sacred to their culture. OPTION 3: Install toilet facilities on Uluru OPTION 4: Open Uluru on certain days for tourists and non-aboriginals to climb the rock. |
PROS AND CONS FOR ULURU ISSUE:
OPTION 1: PROS: Guided tours would still receive money. Local businesses will receive money from tourists and other visitors. The area around Uluru would receive good ratings from tourists and tourism would continue. CONS: There would still be risks of falling. People would still continue to die, when climbing Uluru . Tourists would continue to urinate on the sandstone formation; which kills many native animals that live in the waterholes. Erosion would continue to happen. OPTION 2: PROS: Erosion wouldn't be such a problem. Aboriginals would be very happy with the outcome; and there wouldn't be high bacteria levels in waterholes which saves many native animals. The tourists could still walk around the rocks. The falling/death risks would decrease. CONS: Tourism would decrease around the area. Tourists and tour companies would be unhappy with this decision, because they were unable to climb Uluru. OPTION 3: PROS: The bacteria levels in the waterholes would decrease resulting in saving more native animals. Uluru would be cleaner environment. Tourism would continue. CONS: It would cost a lot of money for installing the toilets on Uluru. People would have to continually clean the facilities. The Aboriginals would become annoyed that toilets are on Uluru. There would still be falling and death risks. OPTION 4: PROS: Both Aboriginals and tourists would be happy with the outcome as it is suited to them both. Erosion would decrease during closed hours. Bacterial levels would decrease when no-one was climbing. Tourism would still receive money CONS: Tourists number becomes to large when Uluru is open to the public. Bacterial levels could rise higher when larger groups arrive to climb Uluru. Erosion could get worse. |
